Overview
Cat Mate's 254 electromagnetic cat flap unlocks with a magnet on an included collar tag, offering four locking modes and installation into UPVC, wood or a wall panel up to 60 millimeters thick.
Unlike chip-reading flaps, this model responds to any cat wearing the magnetic collar tag rather than identifying individual cats, so it suits keeping strays out rather than sorting between multiple household cats.
- Four-way locking modes
- Magnetic collar tag operation
- Fits UPVC, wood or wall installs up to 60mm thick
- Three-year manufacturer warranty
Who it's for
Households with one or a few cats wanting basic magnet-key access control against strays or other animals. Not suited to multi-cat homes needing per-cat recognition.
Pros and cons
- Four-way locking modes
- Installs in doors, walls or UPVC panels
- Three-year manufacturer warranty
- Cannot distinguish between multiple cats individually
- Panel thickness limited to 60 millimeters
- Rating sits lower at 3.9 out of 5
Performance notes
The flap runs four lock settings, combinations of locked and unlocked in and out, and is rated to a 50-pound weight capacity, with the magnetic collar tag triggering the unlock rather than a microchip reader.
