Overview
An upright tempered glass and stainless steel block shows off the knives in this Mercer Genesis set, much as a magnetic strip would but without exposed blades. The knives are fully forged, with Santoprene handles and hand-polished taper-grind edges.
The set covers a paring, utility, boning, bread and chef's knife, which is the core of home prep. Forged single-piece blades with substantial bolsters add balance. The block is glass, and the specs say limited lifetime while the description says one year.
Who it's for
Home cooks setting up a kitchen who want a matched set that stands on the counter and shows every handle. People who want a larger set, a hidden drawer tray or machine washing should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Five knives plus block in one set
- Fully forged single-piece blades
- Nonslip Santoprene handles
- Visible tempered glass block
- Hand washing recommended
- Warranty stated two ways
- Block needs counter space
Performance notes
Forged blades are made from one piece, with a bolster adding balance at the grip. Taper-ground edges are polished by hand, and Santoprene handles resist slipping when wet. The upright glass block holds the knives so they are displayed, with blades enclosed rather than exposed.
