Overview
Alloy steel links form this Shimano HG40 single strand chain, made for the older gear counts named in the title. A connector link is part of the title, and the chain comes as one piece in the box.
The HG range is a familiar name for upkeep on older gearing, and the chain is a plain, working replacement. The listing shows a roller size, pitch and a usable length nowhere, so measure the old chain.
Who it's for
Riders keeping an older geared bike running with a straightforward replacement. Those with newer, many-cog drivetrains need a chain built for them.
Pros and cons
- Suits older gear counts
- Alloy steel construction
- HG series pedigree
- Link count listed two ways
- Roller size and pitch not listed
- Not for newer drivetrains
Performance notes
A chain wears as its pins and rollers stretch, and a worn chain accelerates wear on the cogs. Matching the chain to the drivetrain matters because chain width must suit the cog spacing.
