Overview
This is a 27 yard spool of Maxima chameleon leader material rated at 20 pound test, sold as monofilament line rather than a pre tapered leader despite the fly leader category label. Anglers use it to build or repair their own leaders and tippets to a specific strength.
The special order code on the packaging, Maxima Leader 20lb Cham 27yd, confirms this is a bulk spool of chameleon colored monofilament rather than a tapered, ready to fish leader. Category text calls it a Fly Leader, but the length and pound test spec point to leader building material anglers cut down themselves.
- 20 lb test
- 27 yard spool
- Chameleon color
- Monofilament construction
Who it's for
Anglers who tie their own leaders and tippets and want a known strength monofilament in chameleon color to work with. Not for anyone expecting a finished, tapered leader ready to tie straight to a fly line.
Pros and cons
- 27 yards gives enough material for several leaders
- Chameleon color shifts with water conditions
- Known 20 lb breaking strength for predictable builds
- Not a finished tapered leader, requires cutting and knotting
- Category label calling it a fly leader can mislead buyers expecting a ready made product
Performance notes
Chameleon mono is valued for shifting shade with the water and light it is fished in, which can reduce visibility to fish compared to a fixed color line. At 20 lb test and 27 yards, there is enough material here for multiple leader builds or tippet repairs rather than a single use application.
