Overview
A busy drum kit with lots of cymbal work is where these Vic Firth sticks earn their place. Hickory shafts carry a nylon tip for a defined ping on cymbals, and the Vic Grip handle treatment helps hands hold on through long sets.
Grip security is the reason to choose them, since sweaty hands lose fewer sticks mid-song. Size data is missing entirely, so drummers have to rely on knowing the model already.
Who it's for
Fast players who drop sticks during long gigs get a coated grip and durable tips. Drummers who want a natural wood feel in the hand or a warmer wood-tip sound should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Nylon tips stay intact longer
- Clear, bright attack on cymbals
- Grip treatment reduces dropped sticks
- Hickory flexes and absorbs shock
- Length, diameter and weight not listed
- Nylon tips sound brighter than wood
- Coated handle feels tacky to some players
Performance notes
Cymbal sound comes from the tip material, and nylon gives a sharper, brighter contact than wood. The grip coating adds friction where the hand holds the stick, which matters most once hands start to sweat. Hickory bends a little on impact, which softens shock to the wrists.
