Overview
Not a build-it-yourself kit, the Athena arrives prebuilt with a nose cone, a body tube and a bright recovery parachute. Reusable plastic parts make repeat flights straightforward. It is made for science learning without glue or sharp tools.
Skipping the build gets a beginner into the air in minutes, which suits gifts and homeschool science. The set contains only the rocket itself, so a launch pad system and engines must be added before the first flight.
Who it's for
Kids and parents who want hands-on physics without tools or glue get a simple rocket ready for open-air launches. Families who want a launch system included, or a model to assemble, should consider a set with those parts.
Pros and cons
- Prebuilt, no tools or glue
- Bright parachute for easy recovery
- Reusable plastic parts
- Clear altitude figure
- Launch pad not included
- Engines sold separately
- Starters and wadding sold separately
- Length not clearly listed
Performance notes
An Estes engine lifts the rocket to its stated height, and the parachute opens to slow the descent and make recovery easy. The prebuilt body gives a consistent assembly with no building errors. A launch pad system and a clear open field complete the setup.
