Overview
Streit's Matzo Ball & Soup Mix ships as three 4.5 oz boxes, kosher for Passover, using a recipe of matzo meal, onions, garlic, and herbs to make matzo balls and a companion soup base.
The one recurring gripe is not the taste but the format: buyers who expected the plain matzo ball mix box report receiving the combined matzo ball and soup mix version instead, which adds a dry soup packet some don't want because of its sodium content.
- 4.5 oz x 3 pack
- Kosher for Passover, Rabbinical supervision
- Includes matzo ball mix and a dry soup packet
- Family recipe from a New York Lower East Side factory
Who it's for
Home cooks making matzo ball soup for Passover or any time of year who want a reliable shortcut rather than building the balls from scratch. Less suited to anyone strictly limiting sodium, since the bundled soup packet is salty.
Pros and cons
- Some boxes include a dry soup packet buyers did not expect
- Soup packet is high in sodium
- Contains wheat, not suitable for gluten-free diets
Performance notes
Each box makes matzo balls from a shelf-stable dry mix of matzo meal, onion, garlic, and herbs, so results depend mainly on how the balls are cooked rather than the mix itself.
