Overview
Not a scaled down student model, this Protege by Cordoba is a full size nylon string guitar with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides. A light truss rod in the neck allows easy adjustment.
Beginners get proper classical proportions, nylon strings that are kind to fingertips and a glossy finish. The listing does not say whether the woods are laminated, and nothing beyond the guitar is mentioned.
Who it's for
Teens and adults beginning classical lessons get a full size, lightweight guitar. Young children will find the full scale a stretch and should look at a three quarter size model.
Pros and cons
- Full size classical proportions
- Adjustable truss rod
- Soft nylon strings for beginners
- Case not listed
- Wood construction not specified as laminate or not
- Basic hardware for advancing players
Performance notes
A spruce top delivers a brighter, more focused classical tone than cedar, while mahogany adds warmth beneath. Nylon strings at classical tension are gentle on new players' fingertips.
