Overview
On a blues jam stage or a back porch, the Hohner Marine Band harp adds extra notes to the classic diatonic layout. Arched covers shape its deep, rich tone, and a lacquer sealed comb resists swelling.
Extra range in a traditional build is why blues players reach for it. Nailed reed plates are true to the original but make reed work slower than a screwed plate design.
Who it's for
Blues and roots harmonica players chasing a vintage sound will enjoy the extra notes. Players who need full chromatic scales should look at a chromatic model.
Pros and cons
- Extended range with extra notes
- Classic deep, rich tone
- Screwed covers for easy cleaning
- Sealed comb resists swelling
- Diatonic, one key only
- Nailed reed plates slow repairs
Performance notes
Tone comes from the reeds vibrating inside arched covers that project a warm, focused sound. The lacquer sealed comb limits swelling from moisture so the harp stays airtight. Extra holes widen the range beyond a standard harp.
