Overview
Scotty's 2701K is a 200 lb test braided downrigger line, sold as a 300 foot spool with a kit. It is a microfilament braid built for downrigger reels, not casting line.
Downrigger line has to run through a downrigger reel and hold a heavy weight steady at depth, so it is rated far heavier than typical casting line at 200 lb test. The kit packaging suggests it includes hardware alongside the spool.
- 200 lb test
- 300 foot spool
- Braided microfilament
- Downrigger specific
Who it's for
Suits anglers running a downrigger system for trolling at depth. It does not apply to standard spinning or casting reels, which is a separate use case from downrigger fishing.
Pros and cons
- 200 lb test suited to downrigger loads
- 300 foot spool length
- Sold with a kit
- Not usable as standard casting or spinning line
- Kit contents beyond the line spool are not detailed
Performance notes
The 200 lb rating reflects what is needed to hold a downrigger weight steady against trolling drag at depth, well beyond what casting line for hooked fish requires.
