Overview
Milwaukee Instruments sells the MA887 as a digital refractometer for measuring salinity in marine tanks. It travels and stores in a carrying case supplied with the meter.
One job, done in a case: reading salt content of aquarium water. Everything else about it is blank in the listing, from units and measuring range to sample size and power source. Anyone buying should look up the maker's data sheet first.
Who it's for
Marine aquarium owners who test water salinity regularly and want a case to store the meter. Hobbyists who need other measurements, such as sugar content or freshwater use, should confirm the meter's scales first.
Pros and cons
- Carrying case included
- Aimed at saltwater aquariums
- Measuring range not listed
- Accuracy and calibration unstated
- No product description
Performance notes
A refractometer reads the sample through its optical surface, so the result depends on a clean, properly loaded sample and on calibration. The listing says nothing about how this model is calibrated or how temperature is handled, so those points should be checked with the maker.
