Overview
TRANGO designed the Raptor Ice around a tip-weighted head and a curved aluminum shaft, with a molded rubber grip for confident swings. A metal blade comes with a choice of serrated or straight edge, and removable weights adjust the swing.
Removable weights and tip-weighted geometry are the reasons to choose it for ice climbing. The listing gives no certifications, pick angle or hammer details, so verify the safety ratings elsewhere.
Who it's for
Ice climbers who like to tune their tool's swing will use the removable weights and the grip. Mountaineers seeking a general-purpose axe, or any buyer who needs a documented certification, should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Curved aluminum shaft
- Molded rubber grip
- Pick covers included
- Certification not listed
- Pick angle not listed
- Warranty terms not described
- Head weight field is unclear
Performance notes
Weight near the tip adds momentum so the pick bites with less effort, and removable weights let the climber fine tune the balance. The rubber grip helps hold the tool when wet.
