Overview
Not a DSLR despite the category label, the Nikon mirrorless body pairs a compact one inch class sensor with very fast burst shooting and a touchscreen that tilts up for selfies. Wi-Fi and NFC send images to a phone.
Fast continuous shooting with autofocus suits kids, pets and sports in a pocketable body.
Who it's for
Owners of compatible lenses and fans of quick, compact shooting for travel and vlogging. Newcomers should choose a kit with a lens and local warranty.
Pros and cons
- Very fast burst shooting
- Tilting touchscreen for selfies
- Wi-Fi and NFC sharing
- Phase detection autofocus
- Body only, no lens
- No warranty on this version
- Ultra HD video at low frame rate
Performance notes
A small sensor gathers less light than larger formats, so noise rises sooner in dim scenes even with the backside illuminated design. Hybrid autofocus with phase detection areas tracks moving subjects during bursts. Ultra HD video runs at a low frame rate, so Full HD is the practical video mode.
