Overview
Not an ultra HD or Wi-Fi model, this renewed (refurbished) Sony player plays Blu-ray discs at full HD and streams over a wired Ethernet cable. HDMI carries picture and sound to the TV, and a USB port and remote round out the controls.
Full HD Blu-ray with lossless audio formats in a small box suits a basic home theater. The thin listing and a refurbished condition mean you rely on a short warranty, and streaming needs a cable to the router.
Who it's for
Movie fans with a Blu-ray library and a wired network get a compact player. Owners of an ultra HD TV or a room without an Ethernet run should look at another model.
Pros and cons
- Blu-ray at full HD
- Lossless audio formats supported
- Wired streaming over Ethernet
- Small, light box
- Renewed unit, not new
- No Wi-Fi listed
- No 4K playback
- Very little detail in the listing
Performance notes
Disc playback is capped at full HD, so an ultra HD TV upscales the image itself. Lossless audio formats pass through HDMI to a receiver that can decode them. Streaming quality depends on the wired connection to your router.
