Overview
Not a fixed power or tactical first focal plane optic, the Vortex Copperhead is a second focal plane hunting scope with a BDC reticle for holdover. Its one-piece aluminum tube is nitrogen purged and o-ring sealed against water and fog.
Reliability backed by an unconditional warranty is why to choose it, with a sealed one-piece tube built to survive recoil. In a second focal plane scope the BDC marks are only true at one magnification, and the listing does not give tube diameter or eye relief.
Who it's for
Hunters shooting at varied distances who want quick holdover points will use the BDC. Long range target shooters who dial turrets and want a first focal plane reticle should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Sealed nitrogen purged tube
- Holdover reticle for varied ranges
- Fully multi-coated lenses
- Transferable lifetime warranty
- Tube diameter and eye relief not listed
- Rings not listed in the box
- BDC accurate at one zoom only
Performance notes
Fully multi-coated lenses reduce reflection at each glass surface, which matters most at dawn and dusk. In a second focal plane design the reticle stays the same size as you zoom, so holdover marks match only one setting. Nitrogen purging stops internal fogging with temperature swings.
