Hawke 55201 Spotting Scope

Overview

The Hawke 55201 is a spotting scope with an 80mm objective lens and manual focus, built in an aluminum housing finished in green. It measures 9.1 x 9.1 x 15.7 inches, sized for tripod-mounted use rather than handheld glassing.

An 80mm objective is a large aperture for a spotting scope, the kind of size chosen for long-range target shooting, birding or hunting where gathering more light at distance matters. The listed 1x magnification figure likely reflects the base of a zoom eyepiece range rather than the scope's only power, though the data here does not specify the top end. Manual focus and an aluminum body keep the design straightforward rather than motorized.

Who it's for

Suits shooters, birders or hunters who want a large 80mm objective for long-distance viewing from a fixed position, typically on a tripod. Less suited to anyone wanting a compact, pack-light optic, given the sizeable housing.

Pros and cons

Performance notes

The 80mm objective lens is the main performance driver, gathering more light than smaller spotting scopes and helping with clarity at long range, especially in low light. Manual focus keeps control in the user's hands rather than relying on an auto system, and the aluminum housing is built to handle field use.
