Overview
Reinforced plain strings and a new wire drawing process raise the tensile strength of these Ernie Ball medium strings, while plasma enhanced wrap wire with a nanotreatment fights corrosion. Ernie Ball backs them against breaking or rusting.
The warranty says a lot: these are built for players who punish strings. Medium tension drives the top for more volume and low end. Lighter handed players may find them stiff.
Who it's for
Bluegrass, rhythm and stage players with strong hands who want projection. Newer players will find a lighter gauge easier.
Pros and cons
- Break and rust warranty
- Oil repelling wrap
- Reinforced plain strings
- Warm phosphor bronze tone
- Harder to fret
- More neck tension
- Coating status listed inconsistently
Performance notes
Medium gauge raises tension, which adds volume and sustain but needs more finger pressure. Higher tensile wire resists breaking under heavy picking. The treated wrap slows the dulling that sweat causes.
