Overview
Not just a disc spinner, the Samsung player also streams shows and apps over built in Wi-Fi alongside Ultra HD Blu-ray playback. It recognizes HDR content and adjusts settings automatically.
Ultra HD discs deliver far more detail and color than streaming, and the player handles HDR on its own. A single HDMI output and sparse specs limit setups with older receivers.
Who it's for
Movie fans who want top disc quality plus a few apps in one box. Owners of older HD TVs will gain little over a standard Blu-ray player.
Pros and cons
- Ultra HD disc playback
- Automatic HDR detection
- Low standby power
- USB media input
- Single HDMI output
- Ultra HD HDR TV needed
- Box contents not listed
Performance notes
Detail and color depend on the TV: an Ultra HD HDR set shows the full benefit, while HD sets receive a scaled picture. The player detects HDR discs and adjusts output automatically. Streaming quality depends on the home internet connection.
