Overview
DRAGONtail's 4350101654 is a 30 meter spool of orange fluorocarbon level line sized 3.5 and rated to about 6 pounds, built for tenkara style fly fishing rather than a tapered western leader.
Tenkara casting relies on a fixed length line tied straight to the rod tip, so a level line spool like this one is meant to be cut to whatever length the angler's rod and stream call for rather than fished as a single pre-tapered leader. The bright orange finish sits on the water where a caster can track the line's position and detect a strike, while the fluorocarbon itself stays fairly invisible below the surface where fish see it.
- 30 meter fluorocarbon spool
- Tenkara level line, size 3.5
- Rated to about 6 pounds
- Orange for on water visibility
Who it's for
Suited to tenkara anglers running a fixed line rod without a reel who want a bulk spool to cut to their own preferred lengths. Not a fit for anglers who fish a tapered leader off a fly reel.
Pros and cons
- 30 meter spool covers many cut lengths from one purchase
- Orange coating stays visible for strike detection
- Fluorocarbon resists abrasion on rocks and structure
- Level line, not a tapered leader, so it needs to be cut and rigged by the angler
- No tippet or backing included beyond the line itself
Performance notes
Fluorocarbon has minimal stretch and sinks faster than nylon, which helps the line stay under surface tension on moving water, and it resists abrasion better than standard mono. Size 3.5 refers to the line's diameter under the common Japanese level line numbering, and the 6 pound rating governs how much pressure the line can take before it gives.

Frequently asked questions
Is the DRAGONtail 4350101654 a tapered leader?
No, it is a level line, meaning the diameter stays constant along its length, which is standard for tenkara casting rather than western fly reels.
What material is this line made from?
Fluorocarbon, which sinks readily and resists abrasion better than nylon monofilament.
How much line is on the spool?
30 meters, which the angler cuts down to the length needed for their rod and fishing situation.
