Overview
A cast iron base and a 9.5 pound total weight give the WEN 6534 router the heft to stay planted during cuts, while its 8 amp motor runs on standard corded AC power.
Cast iron is a heavier, more rigid choice for a router base than the aluminum used on many portable models, and the WEN 6534's 9.5 pound weight backs that up. That combination suggests a tool built to stay planted and reduce vibration during cuts rather than one meant for constant handheld carrying.
- 8 amp corded motor
- Cast iron base
- 9.5 pound weight
- 12 x 9.75 x 8.25 inch footprint
Who it's for
Woodworkers who want a stable, corded router with a rigid cast iron base for cleaner cuts. Less suited to anyone who needs the lightest possible router for overhead or highly portable use.
Pros and cons
- Cast iron base for stability
- Corded for sustained power
- 8 amp motor
- 9.5 pounds is heavier than portable routers
- Bit compatibility not specified
Performance notes
The cast iron base adds mass that helps dampen vibration and keep the tool steady during cuts, at the cost of extra weight compared to aluminum bodied routers. Drawing 8 amps on corded AC power gives it sustained run time without battery limits.
