Overview
Capped at 720p HD resolution, the Roku 3900SE runs the Roku platform with access to Hulu, Netflix, Vudu and YouTube. It connects over HDMI and comes in a purple finish.
720p HD output puts this below the 4K players common in Roku's current lineup, making it a fit for an older or smaller HD television rather than a 4K display, since 720p content will not take advantage of a 4K screen's extra resolution. The listed app roster covers several major streaming services, and HDMI is the only connectivity method specified in the spec data.
- 720p HD streaming resolution
- Roku platform with Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, YouTube
- HDMI connectivity
- Purple finish
Who it's for
Buyers with an HD television who want a low cost streaming player for the major apps. Not the choice for anyone with a 4K display, since output is capped at 720p.
Pros and cons
- Access to Hulu, Netflix, Vudu and YouTube through Roku's platform
- HDMI connection to the TV
- Capped at 720p HD, no 4K output
Performance notes
Because output is capped at 720p HD, picture quality will not exceed standard HD sharpness even when source content is available in higher resolution, which is the main tradeoff against Roku's 4K capable players. The listed apps run through Roku's own platform, and HDMI carries the signal to the television.
