Overview
Magnavox built this combo to play DVDs and VHS tapes from a single box with one remote. The renewed (refurbished) unit was inspected and tested by an Amazon-qualified supplier, and it outputs video over S-video or RCA cables.
Convenience for mixed media collections is the reason to buy, with discs and tapes sharing one shelf spot and one remote. Being a refurbished unit with analog outputs, it suits older TVs, and newer sets may lack matching inputs.
Who it's for
Families with boxes of home videos and a DVD shelf get both formats in one renewed player. Owners of new TVs with no composite or S-video inputs will need extra hardware to connect it.
Pros and cons
- Plays DVDs and VHS in one unit
- Reads recordable DVD and CD discs
- Program and random play
- Remote control included
- Renewed unit, not new
- No HDMI output listed
- Monophonic VCR sound
- Short warranty period
Performance notes
Picture quality is capped by the standard definition output, so DVDs and tapes look softer on large modern screens. Tapes run through a four head transport with monophonic sound, so stereo soundtracks on tape play back in mono.
