Overview
Shimano's SN2500HGFG is a size 2500 spinning reel with a 6.2:1 high gear ratio built for fast lure retrieval, suited to anglers targeting bass, trout or light inshore species. The blend construction and anti-reverse mechanism keep it functional for everyday fishing rather than specialty use.
The HG in the model name marks this as the high-gear version of Shimano's 2500 series, pulling more line per handle turn than a standard-ratio reel, useful for working topwater or fast-moving lures. At 0.32 kilograms it sits in the light to medium spinning class rather than the heavier surf or offshore range.
- Size 2500 spinning reel
- 6.2:1 high gear ratio
- Anti-reverse mechanism
- 0.32 kg reel weight
Who it's for
Anglers who fish medium spinning setups for bass, trout or similar freshwater species and want faster retrieve speed for reaction-bait presentations. Not the pick for heavy surf casting or big-game trolling where a larger reel size is needed.
Pros and cons
- High 6.2:1 gear ratio for fast retrieve
- Anti-reverse handle for solid hooksets
- Size 2500 suits light to medium tackle
- No line capacity or drag spec provided
- Not sized for heavy surf or offshore use
Performance notes
The 6.2:1 gear ratio means each handle turn brings in more line than a slower reel, which matters most when working reaction baits or picking up slack quickly after a hookset. The anti-reverse feature stops the handle from spinning backward, keeping hooksets solid.
