Overview
Booms Fishing built this 7 inch handheld dehooker for removing hooks from fish without touching them, sized for hooks up to roughly 20 pound catches and sold as a two-pack.
The idea is simple, loop the line around the hook, catch it with the dehooker head, and pull to release it, which speeds up catch and release and keeps hands away from teeth and fins. The design favors small to mid size hooks like those on sabiki rigs rather than heavy tackle.
- 7 inch length, sold as a 2 pack
- Rated for fish around 20 pounds
- Ergonomic handle with thumb notch
- Works in saltwater and freshwater
Who it's for
Good for anglers who catch and release often, or who fish sabiki rigs and want bait hooks out fast. Less useful for anyone targeting large fish on heavy hooks where a sturdier, longer tool would reach and hold better.
Pros and cons
- Removes hooks without touching the fish
- Thumb notch grip stays stable when wet
- Floats if dropped in water
- Wire feels light and can seem flimsy to some users
- Length is short for reaching the first hook on longer sabiki rigs
