Overview
A 33 cm aerodynamic throwing ring from Aerobie, the brand behind a Guinness-recorded 406 meter flight over Niagara Falls. It is a lightweight disc-sports ring rated for ages 5 through adult.
One longtime owner flags that the printed tuning instructions once molded onto the ring have been dropped from newer units, which matters if a given ring starts drifting left or right in flight.
- 33 cm aerodynamic ring
- Guinness World Record flight distance
- Designed by Alan Adler
- Rated for ages 5 and up
Who it's for
Anyone wanting a long-distance throwing disc for the yard, beach or park, including dog owners looking for something durable a dog can chase and catch. Less ideal for someone who wants a disc that flies dead straight with zero adjustment, since tuning out drift takes some know-how.
Pros and cons
- Flies noticeably farther than a standard frisbee
- Catchable by hand, arm or head
- Durable enough for dog fetch, chewing included
- Bendable to correct a drifting flight path
- Tuning instructions no longer printed on the ring itself
- Manufacturing has moved outside the US per one buyer
- Flying straight requires manual adjustment out of the box
Performance notes
The thin, low-mass ring shape is what lets it outfly a standard frisbee, and the plastic flexes enough that a warped flight path can be corrected by bending the ring slightly up or down at the point it drifts. Several owners use it for dog fetch and report it survives repeated chewing without failing. The catch is that it now ships without the old printed bend-up, bend-down tuning guide, so a buyer who does not already know the trick may just get an off-course ring and give up on it.
