Overview
Players who want the shimmer of a twelve string without a bulky body get Ibanez's slender single cutaway, with a spruce top over sapele. An under-saddle pickup and preamp with onboard tuner make it ready for an amp or PA.
A slim body makes a twelve string easier to hold and play for long sets, and the cutaway opens upper frets. The tuner helps with the extra strings. Thin bodies give up some unplugged volume and bass.
Who it's for
Worship, folk and cover band players adding twelve string sparkle on stage. Players who mostly play unplugged in a room may prefer a full depth body.
Pros and cons
- Slim, comfortable body
- Preamp and piezo built in
- Cutaway for upper frets
- Case not listed
- Less unplugged depth
- Short one year warranty
Performance notes
The slender body reduces air volume, so unplugged bass is lighter while feedback resistance on stage improves. The piezo pickup senses string vibration at the saddle for a crisp amplified tone. Twelve strings put extra load on the neck, so setup matters.
