Overview
Kelty fills the Galactic with RDS certified down in a rectangular shape that packs small for backpacking. Two of these bags zip together, and two-way zippers let feet vent on warm nights.
Down gives warmth for its weight and packs smaller than synthetic fill. Down clumps when soaked, so wet trips need a dry bag or a synthetic option.
Who it's for
Couples and solo campers on spring-to-fall trips get a packable, zip-together bag. Tall sleepers over six feet and cold-weather campers need a different model.
Pros and cons
- Light and compressible
- RDS certified down
- Zips to a second bag
- 2-way zipper for venting
- Down weak when wet
- Fits only to six feet
- Rectangular shape less thermal efficient
Performance notes
Down loft traps warm air, and fill power sets how much loft each ounce provides. A rectangular cut leaves more air to heat than a mummy, while the cinch cord snugs the bag closer.
