Overview
A laptop bag, a camera case or a desk drawer is where this WD drive lives, carrying files between computers and game consoles. Flash storage means no moving parts, which helps it survive drops.
Flash storage in a tiny shell gives quicker transfers and better shock tolerance than a portable hard drive. The older USB interface caps speed below newer USB-C drives.
Who it's for
Laptop users and console players who want quick, tough portable storage. Creators working with large video files should look for a faster interface.
Pros and cons
- Faster than portable hard drives
- Survives drops up to two meters
- Tiny and light
- Works with PC, Mac and consoles
- Limited to older USB speeds
- Write speed not listed
- No hardware encryption listed
Performance notes
With no moving parts, an SSD reads small files and launches content far quicker than a spinning drive, and tolerates bumps in a bag. Transfer speed is capped by the older USB link. Results vary with the host device and file sizes.
