Overview
Altra builds the Olympus Hike Mid GTX with a zero-drop, deeply cushioned platform, a GORE-TEX membrane and a Vibram Megagrip outsole. The Original Fit toe box lets toes spread, and the mid cut supports the ankle.
Cushion, grip and waterproofing in a wide-toe mid boot suit long, wet hikes. Zero drop loads the calves and Achilles more, so transition slowly.
Who it's for
Long day hikes in wet terrain suit this mid. People new to zero drop should ease in on shorter outings.
Pros and cons
- Roomy toe box
- Vibram Megagrip traction
- Mid-cut ankle support
- Zero drop needs adaptation
- Weight listed two ways
- Membrane limits breathability
Performance notes
Vibram Megagrip uses a sticky compound that holds on wet rock and dry ground. Zero drop sets heel and forefoot level, which promotes a midfoot strike. The GORE-TEX membrane blocks water but traps some heat.
