Overview
Berkey built the BB9-2 as a gravity-fed countertop system, holding 2.25 gallons in a stainless steel housing and using the brand's proprietary Black Berkey filter media rather than a standard carbon cartridge.
Gravity systems like this work without electricity or water pressure: water poured into the upper chamber filters down into the lower reservoir through the Black Berkey elements. The 2.25-gallon capacity sits at the smaller end of Berkey's stainless lineup, suited to smaller households rather than a large family.
- 2.25 gallon capacity
- Freestanding gravity install
- Stainless steel construction
- Black Berkey proprietary media
Who it's for
Fits households wanting a countertop gravity filter that works during power or water outages, and who do not mind refilling a 2.25-gallon reservoir as it empties.
Pros and cons
- Works without electricity or plumbing
- Stainless steel housing
- Proprietary Black Berkey filter media
- 2.25-gallon capacity requires more frequent refilling for larger households
- Countertop footprint needed for two stacked chambers
Performance notes
Water gravity-feeds from the upper chamber through the Black Berkey elements into the lower stainless reservoir, a filtration method that does not depend on line pressure or electrical power.
