Overview
The Danby DCF050A5WDB is a 5.0 cu ft square chest freezer rated Energy Star compliant and garage ready, meaning Danby says it can run in ambient temperatures from 0F to 110F. It includes power-on and compressor indicator lights so an owner can confirm at a glance that it is running.
Danby backs this model with 5 years of parts and labor in-home warranty, longer than the coverage typical on a freezer this size. It also lists 48 hours of power outage protection under standard operating conditions when loaded about three-quarters full with frozen food, which matters most for anyone storing freezer stock through outages.
- 5.0 cu ft square chest freezer
- Garage ready 0F to 110F ambient range
- 5-year parts and labor warranty
- 48-hour power outage protection under standard load
Who it's for
Fits a garage, basement or workshop that needs compact bulk frozen storage and can tolerate temperature swings outside a climate-controlled kitchen. Less useful for anyone needing chest freezer capacity much larger than 5 cu ft.
Pros and cons
- Garage rated for 0F to 110F ambient temperatures
- 5-year parts and labor in-home warranty
- Power-on and compressor indicator lights
- Energy Star compliant
- Only 5.0 cu ft of capacity
- 48-hour outage protection is conditional on load and standard operating conditions, not guaranteed
Performance notes
The D-shaped pipe cooling system is built around the whole cabinet for even cooling, and counter-balanced hinges keep the heavy lid easy to lift and hold open without a prop. Danby rates 48 hours of power outage protection when the freezer is loaded about three-quarters full under standard conditions, not an unlimited hold time.
