Overview
School band rooms and first lessons are where the Prelude by Selmer student clarinet belongs. Its durable ABS body handles daily carrying, silver plated keys give the fingers a comfortable surface, and a lightweight case makes the trip to class easier.
Durability for a beginner drives the design, with an ABS body and comfortable silver plated keys aimed at a student's first steps. Only the mouthpiece is listed as included, so reeds and other small parts may need a separate order.
Who it's for
Young players starting lessons need a durable instrument, and the student design targets them. Experienced players looking for a wooden step-up clarinet should shop elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Durable ABS plastic body
- Silver plated keys feel comfortable
- Lightweight case for carrying
- Two-year manufacturer warranty
- Reeds and ligature not listed
- Plastic body, not wood
- Aimed at beginners, not advancing players
Performance notes
Key action depends on the silver plated keywork staying aligned, and the ABS body is built for the wear of student use. Tone at this level rests largely on the reed and mouthpiece pairing, and only the mouthpiece is named in the listing.
