Overview
A home theater with a large local movie library is where the MINIX player fits, decoding high resolution files and Blu-ray rips with menu navigation. AI upscaling sharpens lower resolution video, and fast Wi-Fi plus wired Ethernet handle large streams.
Media collectors get fast decoding, a wide codec list and disc menu support. It is not an Android TV device, and HD Netflix is not supported, which limits it as a streaming box.
Who it's for
Enthusiasts with media servers and Blu-ray backups will use the decoding power and menu support. Subscription streamers will be better served by a certified streaming stick.
Pros and cons
- Decodes many video codecs
- Blu-ray menu navigation
- AI upscaling for older video
- Fast wireless and wired networking
- Not Android TV
- No HD Netflix
- Top resolution needs specific cable and display
Performance notes
Playback smoothness comes from the Amlogic chip's hardware decoding of modern codecs. Upscaling quality depends on source resolution, with the biggest gain on low resolution video. Network speed governs high bitrate streaming from a media server.
