Overview

Not a woodworking circular saw, this Rubi cutter rides on a sliding platform along guide rails to cut porcelain slabs, ceramic tile and stone. It runs dry with a vacuum attached or wet through a regulated water feed, under a die-cast guard with a clear cover.

Rubi built it for large format porcelain, where a rail-guided cutter gives long straight cuts on slabs. It does not work alone: the guide rails, suction cups and clamps are a separate purchase, and the water hose quick coupling is not included.

Who it's for

Tile setters cutting large format porcelain and sintered stone on site get a rail cutter with dust and water management. DIYers expecting a standalone handheld saw will need the separate rail kit before making a single cut.

Pros and cons

Pros
  • Dry or wet cutting modes
  • Accepts reinforced-plate blades
  • Dry-cutting blade included
  • Clear guard eases blade changes
Cons
  • Guide rails and clamps sold separately
  • Water hose quick coupling not included
  • Only usable on its rail system

Performance notes

Cut quality depends on the platform sliding on adjustable radial bearings along the rails, which holds the blade on a straight track. Dust control comes from vacuum extraction during dry cuts or a regulated water flow for wet cuts. The tilting side guard reduces splashes and improves extraction during mitre cuts.
