Overview

Wave Zone built the RIP Soft Top with an EVA deck that wraps over the whole rail line, so there are no hard edges to catch a newcomer. Underneath, a TPU graphic bottom glides over sand and a hard fiberglass shell wraps the foam core.

A soft rail is friendlier to new riders than a hard-edged board, and the shell still handles regular use. The limitation is the short warranty, which covers breakage from workmanship and leaves out wear and tear.

Who it's for

New skimboarders who worry about hard rails will find the soft deck forgiving. Experienced riders and anyone wanting long warranty cover should look at a different board.

Pros and cons

Pros
  • Soft EVA wraps the rail line
  • Hard fiberglass shell
  • TPU bottom glides over sand
  • Size listed with weight and height guidance
Cons
  • Short warranty period
  • Wear and tear not covered
  • Only one of three sizes shown

Performance notes

A TPU bottom slides across wet sand with little drag, and the foam core adds float for the water entry. Volume and board length set the weight a rider can use, which is why the maker links each size to a weight and height range.
