Overview
Not a wired doorbell that ties into your old chime, this Tapo camera runs on its own rechargeable battery and rings your phone instead. It records in sharp detail, spots people with built-in detection and saves clips to a memory card or the cloud.
Subscription-free person alerts and local recording are the reason to choose it over cloud-only doorbells. The chime and memory card are extra, and the listing quotes two different battery capacities.
Who it's for
Apartment dwellers and homeowners without doorbell wiring get a camera that mounts with screws or adhesive. Households on a dual-band router locked to the faster band will need a slower network.
Pros and cons
- Person detection without fees
- Wide field of view
- Calls your phone when pressed
- Custom activity zones
- Chime and microSD sold separately
- Battery capacity listed two ways
- No faster-band Wi-Fi support
Performance notes
Alert accuracy comes from on-camera person detection inside the zones you draw, which cuts false alerts from cars and leaves. Battery life depends on recording time and live view use, so busy doorways drain it faster.
