Overview
A phono stage lifts the weak signal from a record player cartridge and corrects its tonal curve so it can feed an amplifier. This one is labeled for moving magnet turntables and ships with a stereo RCA lead.
The reason to look at it is a simple add-on that lets a turntable without a built-in preamp connect to standard inputs. The limit is how little the listing says about power, gain settings and size, so it is a purchase based on the title alone.
Who it's for
Picture a record player connected to powered speakers or a line input that needs a phono stage in between. A listener with a moving coil cartridge, or one who wants published gain and noise figures, needs a model that lists them.
Pros and cons
- Made for moving magnet turntables
- RCA cable included
- Simple two-lead connection
- Moving magnet cartridges only, per title
- Power supply details are missing
- Specification sheet is nearly empty
Performance notes
The preamp amplifies the very small cartridge signal and applies the playback equalization curve that records are cut with. Hum and noise depend on grounding the turntable and on keeping the cable away from power cords. Cartridge type matters, because a mismatch gives a quiet or distorted result.

Frequently asked questions
How big is the Fosi Audio Box X4?
The listing does not give the dimensions or weight. The only length it states is for the included cable.
Is the cable included?
Yes. A stereo RCA to RCA cable is part of the listing.
Do I need it if my amplifier has a phono input?
Usually not, since that input already supplies a preamp stage. The listing does not cover this case.
