Overview

A compact 1-8x24 second focal plane riflescope with a 30mm maintube, illuminated MSR BDC-8 reticle, and a factory-mounted ALPHA-MSR cantilever mount, built for hunters and tactical shooters who want an 8x low power variable optic ready to mount out of the box.

Sig Sauer positions the Tango-MSR Compact as a value LPVO rather than a flagship optic, and the included cantilever mount and throw lever mean there is little extra to buy before mounting it on an AR platform. Because the reticle sits on the second focal plane, its BDC-8 holdover marks are calibrated for one magnification level, so shooters need to know where on the dial those marks apply.

  • 1-8x24 second focal plane LPVO on a 30mm maintube
  • Illuminated MSR BDC-8 reticle with 6 settings
  • Factory-mounted ALPHA-MSR aluminum cantilever mount
  • Waterproof, shockproof, fog-proof SpectraCoat lens coatings

Who it's for

Fits hunters and AR-platform shooters who want a lightweight low-power variable optic for closer to mid-range work without paying for a first focal plane scope. Less suited to long-range precision shooters who need holdover marks that stay accurate across the full zoom range.

What buyers say

From Amazon customer reviews.

Both available reviews call it a strong value LPVO, with one buyer naming it the top LPVO for the price and another describing it simply as a great economical scope; neither mentions any problems.

Performance notes

The 8x optical system uses low-dispersion glass and SpectraCoat anti-reflection coatings for brightness at dawn and dusk, and metal turrets are built for repeatable clicks rather than fine long-range tracking. Because the MSR BDC-8 reticle is second focal plane, its bullet-drop marks are sized correctly only at the top of the zoom range, so shooters sighting in at lower magnifications need to account for that. The illumination dial has an off position between each of the 6 brightness settings, which helps prevent accidentally leaving it on in a pack.

Frequently asked

Questions about the Sig Sauer SOTMC81000

Common buyer questions answered straight from the product spec data - no fluff, no "it depends".

Does the Sig Sauer Tango-MSR Compact come with a mount?

Yes, it ships with a factory-mounted ALPHA-MSR aluminum cantilever mount already attached, along with flip-back lens covers and a removable throw lever.

Is the Tango-MSR Compact reticle first or second focal plane?

It is second focal plane, so the illuminated MSR BDC-8 holdover marks are calibrated to read correctly at the top of the 8x zoom range, not across every magnification.

What illumination options does the SOTMC81000 have?

It has 6 adjustable illumination settings with an off position between each increment, controlled by a redesigned dial for quick adjustment in changing light.
