Overview
VTech RM7866HD is a wireless baby monitor with 1080p video and Starlight night vision, weighing 2 pounds, and it runs on corded electric power rather than battery.
1080p is sharper than the 480p or 720p feeds common on cheaper monitors, and Starlight is VTech's branding for its low-light camera sensor. The catch is the corded electric power source, this unit needs to stay plugged in rather than running cordless on battery, which limits where it can sit in a room.
- 1080p HD resolution
- Starlight night vision
- 2 lb unit weight
- Wireless connectivity
Who it's for
Parents who want genuinely sharp video resolution and are fine keeping the monitor near a wall outlet. Not a fit for anyone who wants a fully cordless, portable unit.
Pros and cons
- 1080p video resolution
- Starlight night vision
- Wireless camera connectivity
- Corded electric only, no battery backup
Performance notes
1080p resolution should render noticeably clearer footage than the standard-definition cameras many budget monitors use. Starlight night vision is designed to pull more detail out of a dark room than a basic IR-only sensor. Because the unit is corded electric with no stated battery backup, the video feed depends on continuous wall power, so it will not keep monitoring through an outage.
