Overview

Zafro's 16,000 BTU (12,000 BTU SACC) inverter portable air conditioner uses a dual-hose design and targets whole-room cooling with six modes: Cool, Dry, Fan, Sleep, Extra and Eco, controlled through the Zafro app, remote or physical controls.

Where most portable ACs at this price use a fixed-speed compressor, Zafro builds this one around an inverter compressor that the brand rates at a CEER of 12.8, well above the 7.83 federal minimum, by adjusting cooling output rather than cycling on and off. The Extra mode is a distinct feature: it locks the temperature at 61 degrees and runs at full power for fast cooling during a heat spike, separate from the normal thermostat-controlled Cool mode.

The dual-hose system draws exhaust air from outside the room while a separate hose brings in air for cooling, moving up to 500 cubic meters of air per hour. The self-evaporating condensate system slings collected moisture onto the condenser to evaporate it, which Zafro says keeps the unit drain-free for 72 hours in humidity under 90 percent; a drain hose is included for wetter conditions. Sleep mode steps down compressor frequency and fan speed together to hold a stable temperature at low noise, rated as low as 42 decibels.
