Overview
Hikers and land navigation students get a lensatic compass with phosphorescent markings for reading the dial in low light. Cammenga describes it as essentially the same model supplied to the U.S. Military, in a waterproof body.
Military pedigree is the reason to look at it: Cammenga says it is essentially the model the armed forces receive. The listing gives no dimensions, weight, scale or declination details, so map users need to confirm the markings match their maps.
Who it's for
Outdoor navigators who trust a military design and want markings readable in the dark get a straightforward option. Shoppers comparing exact weights, sizes or map scales will find too little data in this listing.
Pros and cons
- Lensatic sighting design
- Phosphorescent markings for low light
- Waterproof, per the listing
- Based on the military-supplied model
- Dimensions, weight and scales not listed
- Warranty terms unclear
- Listed material is plastic
Performance notes
Accuracy depends on holding the compass level and steady while sighting through the lens, since a tilted dial can drag. Night readability depends on the phosphorescent markings, which glow from stored light rather than a power source. Nearby metal and electronics can pull the needle, so sight away from them.
