Hair repair treatments are intensive products for damaged hair, from protein reconstructors and bond builders to leave in sprays and rinse out masks. They are close to conditioners and hair glosses but work at a different depth: a regular conditioner smooths the surface, a gloss adds shine and tone, and a repair treatment aims to strengthen hair weakened by bleach, colour or heat. The first decision is the kind of damage, because a protein treatment suits overprocessed, stretchy hair, while very dry, stiff hair usually needs moisture rather than more protein.
How the treatment is used is the next choice. Rinse out treatments are applied after shampoo, left on for the time on the label and then washed out; leave in formulas, which often come as a Spray or a light Liquid and stay in the hair, are used before styling. Strong protein treatments can leave hair feeling hard if overused, so follow the frequency in the instructions and follow with a moisturising conditioner if the label says so.
Bond building treatments are a separate group, often used before or after colouring, and some are sold as a numbered system with a salon step and a home step. Check whether you are buying the full system or only one step.
Before buying, read the label for how often it should be used, how long it stays on, and whether it is safe on colour treated hair. If your scalp is sensitive, check the ingredient list for fragrance and look for a product meant to be applied to the lengths only.
How we list products: every listing here has a recorded price, a minimum customer rating and enough ratings or monthly sales. Generic and unbranded listings are left out; every real brand stays, including brands sold only on Amazon. Products are ordered by the same ProductDome score on every page.Editorial policy
