Overview
WARN built the XD winch around a series wound motor and steel wire rope for real-world vehicle recovery. A wired remote with a long lead lets the operator stand clear while pulling.
A long wire rope reaches distant anchors without extension straps, which matters on open trails. Steel rope is heavier and stores more energy than synthetic, so it calls for a damper.
Who it's for
Off-roaders and work trucks needing self-recovery suit it. Owners who prefer lighter synthetic rope should look at a synthetic-rope model.
Pros and cons
- Long rope length
- Fast line speed claim
- Series wound motor
- Wired remote with long lead
- Gear ratio and brake not listed
- Steel rope needs care
Performance notes
Pulling force comes from the series wound motor through the gear train, so speed drops as load rises. Steel rope resists abrasion on rocks but should be kept tightly spooled to avoid crushing.
