ASIN: B0002ZB5Y8Category: Bear Resistant Food Containers
Overview
The Backpackers' Cache is a rigid, cylindrical bear canister meant to sit inside a backpack and keep food, toiletries and other scented items sealed away from bears and other camp-raiding wildlife on multi-day trips.
Amazon supplies almost nothing beyond two marketing bullets and no seller description, so this listing runs thin on hard specs. What is clear from the title and category is its job: block bears from reaching stored food at a backcountry campsite.
- Hard-sided bear-resistant canister
- Listed for backcountry food storage
Who it's for
Backpackers and hikers heading into bear country who need a hard-sided container to store food away from camp. It suits anyone who wants a dedicated bear canister rather than a bear bag or rope hang.
Pros and cons
- Keeps food and scented items away from bears
- No capacity, weight or dimension figures given
Performance notes
As a rigid canister, it works by physically denying bears access to food rather than just masking odor. The two supplied bullets describe it as discouraging bears from raiding a campsite and keeping food out of their reach, which is the standard mechanism for this category of gear.
