Overview
The Vicks V745 is a top-fill warm mist humidifier for small to medium rooms, holding a 1-gallon tank good for about 24 hours of run time with no filter to replace. It targets cold and flu season use, adding moisture to bedrooms and kids' rooms with just two settings and auto shut-off.
This is a warm mist, steam-based unit rather than ultrasonic cool mist, so it boils water with a heating element instead of vibrating it into fine droplets, which changes both its running cost and cleaning needs compared to filter-based humidifiers. Vicks positions it around 40-60% target humidity for a room up to 600 sq ft, with only low and high settings rather than a dial. It pairs with Vicks VapoSteam and VapoPads for scented vapor, sold separately.
- 1-gallon top-fill tank, about 24 hours per fill
- Covers rooms up to 600 sq ft
- No filter required
- Auto shut-off, low and high settings
Who it's for
Fits anyone humidifying a single bedroom or kids' room during cold and flu season who wants a filter-free unit that is simple to fill and clean. Less suited to running it around the clock all winter, since the heating element adds a real electricity cost one long-term reviewer measured.
Pros and cons
- Warm mist costs more in electricity than filter-based units
- Only two settings, low and high, no humidity dial
- A metallic smell and light film reported during initial use by at least one reviewer
- One reviewer received a narrower tank opening than shown in the listing photos
Performance notes
Owners who run it on low describe that setting as close to silent, with high audibly louder but still called quiet by most.
