Overview
Norteno sessions, family parties and practice rooms are where this Hohner Compadre fits, a two-voice button accordion in the FBbEb key set. Treble buttons sit on a celluloid fingerboard, bass buttons are on the left, and a redesigned open grille lets more sound out.
Low weight and an open grille make it easy to carry and loud enough to be heard. Short warranty coverage and a plastic body point to a learner's instrument more than a lifelong one.
Who it's for
Students and casual players get a light diatonic button box with a bag for transport. Players who need a piano keyboard layout or other keys should look for a different model.
Pros and cons
- Light enough for long sessions
- Open grille increases volume
- Adjustable bass strap
- Gig bag in the box
- Only a limited 90 day warranty
- Single key set
Performance notes
Volume depends on how freely sound leaves the reed chambers, which the wide open grille is designed to help. Two voices per button give a fuller sound than a single reed. The adjustable strap governs how well the bellows can be controlled while playing.
