Overview
Bedrooms and second TVs suit this slim Sony player, which plays Blu-ray in full HD and upscales DVDs. It streams Netflix, YouTube and more over Ethernet, and a phone app can act as the remote.
Disc playback and the main streaming apps in one slim box suit a secondary TV. Wireless needs a separate Sony adapter, and newer formats are beyond it.
Who it's for
Households adding disc playback to a second TV with a wired network get a simple, slim player. People without Ethernet near the TV should choose a model with built-in Wi-Fi.
Pros and cons
- Slim, light design
- Streams major apps
- Phone app remote
- USB media playback
- Wi-Fi needs an extra adapter
- Single HDMI output
- Stereo audio configuration listed
Performance notes
Picture quality on DVDs improves through upscaling, though it does not match true Blu-ray detail. Streaming reliability depends on the network connection, with Ethernet the steadiest choice. Playback from USB depends on file format support.
