Overview
Connecting this Sony Blu-ray player to an HD TV takes one HDMI cable or the included AV cable, then built-in Wi-Fi joins the home network. A phone app works as a second remote.
Wi-Fi and a phone remote app add convenience to a simple disc player. Everything to start is in the box except an HDMI cable. Output is Full HD, so owners of Ultra HD TVs will want a newer player.
Who it's for
Bedrooms and family rooms with HD TVs and a disc collection get a straightforward player. Owners of newer TVs chasing Ultra HD should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Phone remote app
- Remote and batteries included
- AV cable in the box
- Plays common video and photo files
- HDMI cable not included
- Full HD output only
Performance notes
Picture quality is capped at Full HD, which looks right on HD TVs and is upscaled by newer sets. Surround sound passes to a receiver over HDMI for decoding. Network features depend on Wi-Fi signal strength.
