Performance notes
A HEPA filter works by forcing air through a dense mat of fine fibers, and the 99.97 percent figure Honeywell quotes refers to particles at 0.3 micron, the size that is hardest to trap. Efficiency at that point improves as the filter loads with dust, but airflow drops at the same time, which is the real reason for the annual replacement interval rather than any loss of filtering ability.
