Performance notes
The three layers do distinct jobs. The pre-filter catches hair and larger dust so it never reaches the expensive media. The H13 HEPA layer handles fine airborne particulates. Activated carbon works differently again, adsorbing gas-phase molecules onto a porous surface, which is why it addresses odors and cooking smells that no HEPA layer can touch.
